Powder Canyon Trailhead

“Don’t confuse the hike with the destination. The hike is about the sounds, the smells, the sights.”

Let’s take a hike for some fresh air and a new adventure. Powder Canyon Trail loop is a 3 mile hiking and horseback riding trail that takes you through a beautiful woodland area, on a dirt path up a hill and into a canyon cutting through the Puente Hills before circling back around to an equestrian area.

Black Walnut Trail

You find yourself breathing more heavily as the slope gets steeper and steeper on Black Walnut Trail, as you climb higher up the hillside towards Powder Canyon Trail.

If you stop and listen, you’ll hear the buzzing of electricity coming from the power lines overhead and see views of the surrounding hills and on a clear day as far north as the San Gabriel Mountains.

The slope eventually evens out and you’re able to catch your breathe as you stroll along the path.

I found myself stepping through a small shaded collection of California Live Oaks, which added a lovely canopy overhead and quickly became my favorite spot along the trail.

Powder Canyon Trailhead seemed to be less traveled by hikers, giving you the feeling of having the place entirely to yourself.

Hikers can climb the exact same trail, on the exact same day and see the exact same view, yet walk away with vastly different experiences. For me, being surrounded by nature, seeing the sunlight filtered through the trees, hearing the leaves sing with the wind in the absence of people as I step one foot in front of the other made it a perfect day.
